The PHC kernel for Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal is now available in the linux-phc PPA on Launchpad.
The Linux PHC project provides cpufreq kernel modules for undervolting Intel and AMD processors on a Linux platforms. This gives you the ability to save energy, lower the CPU temperature and expand battery time.
If you want to know more about Linux PHC take a look at the Linux PHC forum and the PHC wiki. The installation notes for the PHC kernel can be found in this thread. If you are going to measure the total power consumption, keep in mind the "10-30% increase in power consumption" bug.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
I have been waiting for this for my T60p and it works beautifully. It worked well in 10.10 and I had been really missing it in Natty.
Along with TPFancontrol, this is one of my most valued pieces of software.
Appreciate your good work.
Does the phc patch really already work with 11.04?
I tried to build the phc-intel-0.3.2-12-1.tar.bz2 module but all I get is:
Makefile detected your kernel version as 2.6.38
***NO MATCHING PATCHSET FOUND FOR 2.6.38***
make: *** Keine Regel vorhanden, um das Target »phc-intel.c«,
benötigt von »phc-intel.ko«, zu erstellen. Schluss.
I’m glad if someone can help me out.
Regards
I’m new to linux… and I just installed the kernel through the repository, after doing this is my pc undervolting already?
No, you also have to install the phc modules and configure the undervolting.
The installation notes say “… The Maverick/Natty kernels do NOT include the PHC modules. It is only prepared for PHC, so you have to install the appropriate PHC modules yourself. This should be very easy with the offtree releases. (See Releases thread http://www.linux-phc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2) …”
You should also take a look at the wiki to understand, why undervolting will never work automatically without configuration. (http://www.linux-phc.org/wiki/doku.php?id=phc_basics)
hi. thank you for your work!
but i have little problem: i cannot find the phc-patchset for 2.6.38 (ubuntu) kernel.
Hi,
I’m trying to under volt my CPU. I download and install the kernel from your link but don’t know how to actually low the voltage. On ubuntu 10.04 i follow this tutorial: http://openmindedbrain.info/26/10/2010/undervolting-in-ubuntu-10-10-maverick/ , but can’t use it here because the patch there no support for 2.6.38. …can you help me?
Thanks and sorry for my english!
All of you having problems with the phc-intel package, you can find an updated phc-intel version in this thread:
http://www.linux-phc.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=267
I haven’t tested it myself, but it looks like it is working.
Thanks, I look at the forum but somehow i miss this thread!
Download the patch and install the compiled .deb. All done success but still can’t find is it work. Tried
“cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/phc_default_vids”
and
“sudo gedit /etc/rc.local”
but there is no such file or no new lines. Any idea how to check if it works?
Thanks for that hint. The patch there helped me out. 🙂
Regards
Really nice, Thanks for this.
David,
Have noticed that you’ve released the PHC kernel for Ubuntu 11.10. Thank you for your hard work. It is certainly appreciated.
